Defining “Walkable” for Hinjewadi

Hinjewadi Phase 3 Fringe (Mahalunge-Maan border)

The Mahalunge-Maan border zone — specifically the projects between the Mahalunge Junction and Mann village road — is within walking distance of Hinjewadi Phase 3. Phase 3 is the newest and fastest-growing IT zone; Infosys and TCS have significant capacity here.
Walking reality: 1–3 km is 15–35 minutes on foot. The road has footpaths under development; morning traffic is still manageable. Companies with Phase 3 offices near the border include Infosys BPM and several product-side captives.

Wakad — The 3-5 km Belt

Wakad is not walking distance but is within the e-scooter/short-drive range where traffic avoidance is possible. The Wakad-Hinjewadi connector road is the primary pain point — but for employees with flexible start times (10 AM rather than 9 AM), the commute compresses significantly.
Cycling reality: Wakad to Hinjewadi Phase 1 by cycle: 25–35 minutes on the Baner-Hinjewadi road (risky without cycle lanes) or via Mahalunge road (less traffic but longer). Not practical for daily cycling; e-scooter is better.
Tathawade — The Underrated 4 km Zone
Distance to Hinjewadi Phase 2: 4–6 km Distance to Hinjewadi Phase 3: 5–7 km
Tathawade’s proximity to Phase 2 and 3 is underappreciated. The Tathawade-Hinjewadi road is less congested than the Wakad route — making Tathawade’s effective commute time shorter than Wakad despite similar absolute distance.
